In this month’s team member spotlight, we’re featuring Bella Peacock, Senior Managing Director in Investment Management and Operations. With a decade of experience at Greystar, Bella offers valuable insights into our achievements and the culture that drives our success. 

Join us as she reflects on her journey and the growth of Greystar throughout Europe, highlighting what makes our organization such an exciting place to work.

 

What attracted you to Greystar?

“I was attracted to Greystar for a number of reasons; from an industry perspective, I had built my early career in residential for rent and in entrepreneurial teams and could see the growth potential in this sector as well as enjoying how tangible it was in terms of providing spaces for people to call home, so when Greystar came to the market, it was a bit of a no-brainer for me to be able to be involved in building the business here in Europe with the benefit of Greystar’s platform and track record in the US. When I started to do my research and met the team, I was immediately hooked by the energy, enthusiasm, approachability, and conviction of everyone I met. They seemed to be a group of people who were focused on delivering to a high standard and creating a positive and enjoyable environment in which to contribute.”

What keeps you at Greystar?

“So much has changed in the last 10 years. When I joined the team, there were just a few of us in an office, having to coordinate who took the key home. When I think back to the early days, it is kind of overwhelming to think of what the business has achieved in these 10 years—in terms of growing our portfolio, establishing our business across 7 countries in Europe, building a team that I am proud to work alongside, and ultimately delivering for our residents and investors, bringing new products to our markets, and definitely new ways of doing things. So much has changed—in our scale, the platform, etc., but I think the thread that has remained consistent is our culture—a group of people that are committed to working together to move the business forward and deliver, and a desire to always improve and grow. In terms of challenges, as we have grown, we have had to keep focus on how we maintain our culture as the business scales, and particularly when we were all remote through the COVID pandemic. I think it has to be a conscious effort to do this, especially when the business is doing a particularly big transaction or going through change.”

How would you describe Greystar’s culture?

"One of the things I value most about Greystar is the breadth of our business and our teams—as an integrated investment manager, developer, and operator, we have such a range of people that all contribute to our success, and I think having these perspectives under one "roof" makes this a really unique and rewarding place to be. I’m not sure if that is specifically our culture, but I do think it’s a special part of who we are. Maybe more specifically to culture, I would say one of the defining features is what I have already talked about above—we are a business with a drive to improve but a humility also in getting there—and I think we really recognise the value in enabling people to reach their potential through challenging assignments and an environment where we are always seeking to learn and grow, with support along the way from colleagues that want to work together to achieve success in a positive environment.”

What are you most looking forward to about Greystar’s future?

“I’m most excited to see where our growth takes us and the opportunities this will present our team to grow. We’ve invested significantly in our data platform and tools to enable our teams to make ever better decisions more quickly, and I’m excited to continue to evolve our platform to serve our partners and residents and continue to foster a rewarding and fun environment for our team members across the business.”
